Highlights from Pastor Jerry’s Nov 10 Sunday message
Pastor Jerry shared how over his lifetime in journalism, he worked for four different companies and God always raised up mentors for him. When he went through tests and trials, they all encouraged him. Never having had any training in journalism he had to listen and do what the mentors instructed him to do.
I was told to stretch my vocabulary by implementing Reader’s Digest word challenges. I did! When going to school, if my teacher told me to memorize a poem, I did… “I I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by… by John Mansfield.
You cannot see everything that you need to know, in what we are looking at, if someone else is programming you. There comes a time when we need the encouragement of the Holy Spirit .
I had been raised in the Church and I thought I knew God. I bought a huge Bible – but it sat on the coffee table and gathered dust! (We have to learn to be more honest with each other.) Years ago I went through depression. My Doctor said, “Do what I tell you” and told me to take six months off work. I bought tickets for Christmas and planned to take the family to Disney World. But that January I met Jesus at a Charismatic prayer group. I discovered in my innermost being that Jesus is alive! Religion will not get you anywhere. Jesus is “the Way, the Truth and the Life!” (John 14:6)
Whatever is in the Word is true! “Nothing will be impossible with God!” (Luke 1:37)
God has been speaking to us about Jacob’s Ladder. (Genesis 28:10-17) Jacob was at the bottom – Jesus at the top! Jacob was a cheater. Jesus, a Restorer. God can choose whoever He wants! Jesus proved to Jacob that He was a restorer and that He would go with him wherever Jacob goes. He is always there for us! We have a calling and we have to obey.
And Jesus knew me on the Cross of Calvary! Jesus is alive – the Resurrected Lord! We must not lessen that realization! I want to see Jesus high and lifted up! (Isaiah 57:15-17)
