I believe that a strong resolve for me in this New Year 2026 is the encouraging truth of Psalm 34. David, a man after God’s own heart, was facing great opposition with threats even to his life. It is interesting to note that this evil opposition came after one of David’s victories. The young shepherd boy had turned into a mighty warrior with his defeat of the giant Goliath. King Saul, motivated by jealousy, over his newfound fame, was attempting to destroy him. David ran in fear trying to find a safe place to avoid his wrath. Finally, he ends up hiding in a cave. Isn’t that just like us as Christians! As soon as we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and we have victory in our life. The enemy comes in and we run and hide.
It was in this state that David gets a revelation, “What am I doing in this cave?” David begins to praise the Lord. He remembers the goodness of God and resolved to return to full obedience and trust in the protection of the sanctuary of the Lord. In Psalm 34 David proclaims the guiding steps for peace in his life. Praise and worship became the foundation of his walk.
I said to the Lord early in December, “What should be the overarching theme for Hope Centre Family Church for 2026? He showed me it was to be “KNOW JESUS AND TO MAKE HIM KNOWN.”
Forty-seven years ago I was part of a group of Anglicans, Baptists, United and Catholics gathered in a Charismatic movement and these words came to me: “Jesus, You are real.” Forty – seven years later He is still real! At 22 Central Ave I want a family that loves Jesus, I want my kids and grandkids to know that Dad and Mom, Grandpa and Grandma love Jesus and that Jesus loves them.
Is there not a cause to fight every giant that yells at us? Remember when we sing songs the anointing is upon Jesus.
It will be wise for us to solidly place our feet on the solid foundation of God’s intentions for all of us that David proclaimed. Here is my summation of Psalm 34 that will help us all to have a happy and blessed New Year:
1.KNOW GOD, Praise Him, seek Him and the truth of His word and freedom from every attack of the enemy.
2. Believe and humbly cry out and know God has heard you! Have confidence in seeking and believing His Word. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life!
3. Feed on the truth of God’s word, live in the awe (reverence) of the Lord and declare His deliverance and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to bring you strength and joy.
4. Come to Him, reverence Him, and be an empowered witness to share His love with others.
5. Keep your tongue from evil, doing good, always speaking peace and pursuing it.
6. Understand the importance of prayer and communication with our wonderful, merciful Savior who redeems the souls of His servants, for those who trust in Him shall not be condemned.
